( )

half past twelve,
and I'm watching the late show in my flat all alone,
how I hate to spend the evening on my own,
autumn winds blowing outside my window

as I look around the room,
and it makes me so depressed to see the gloom,
is there a man out there,
to hear my prayer

gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight,
won't somebody help me chase the shadows away,
gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight,
take me through the darkness to the break of the day

movie stars,
find the end of a rainbow,
with a fortune to win,
it's so different from the world I'm living in,
tired of TV, I open the window
and I gaze into the night,
but there's no-one there to see,
no-one in sight,
is there a man out there,
someone to hear my prayer

gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight,
won't somebody help me chase the shadows away,
gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight,
take me through the darkness to the break of the day

gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight,
won't somebody help me chase the shadows away,
gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight,
take me through the darkness to the break of the day
gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight

is there a man out there,
someone to hear my prayer

gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight,
won't somebody help me chase the shadows away,
gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight,
take me through the darkness to the break of the day

( HIV Symposium )

Dear YAs,

Early this week (ST dated 15 Sep 08), Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan told Parliament on Monday that the incidence of STIs among youths between 15 and 24 years has risen from 231 per 100,000 population in 1998 to 418 per 100,000 in 2007.

In his response to questions from Hong Kah GRC MP Zaqy Mohamad, Mr Khaw said a 2006 Students' Health Survey, jointly conducted by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) and the Ministry of Education (MOE), found that 4 per cent of Secondary 3 and 4 students have had sexual intercourse.

HealthServe (a community-based organisation serving the fringe communities in Singapore), together with CMDF (Christian Medical & Dental Fellowship) is organizing an HIV symposium for Christian advocacy and action on 31 Oct (Fri) and 1 Nov (Sat) at SAC (St. Andrew’s Cathedral). It's on Friday, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, and on Saturday, 2pm to 5pm.

If you would like to attend the symposium, please inform me for registration purposes. =)

I'm going, and I would like to ask more of you to go because a Christian symposium on HIV in Singapore is very rare, and there are also very few resources in Singapore to learn about such.

( Third Quarterly! )

Dear YAMmers,

There will be a combined Fellowship Event for the whole ministry very soon!

Details are as follows:

Time: 3 to 5.30 p.m., Sunday, 28 September 2008

Where: Bungalow Unit 6,

National Service Resort and Country Club
10 Changi Coast Walk
Singapore 499799

Lunch and transport will be on your own, from church. Just make sure you guys are at the chalet by 3 p.m. (i.e. catch the 2.30 p.m. Shuttle!) Shuttle buses are available at Tanah Merah Interchange (Nearest MRT Station!). Do check the website for the exact timings. Similarly for drivers, do refer to the maps on the website for directions on how to get there.

http://www.esrcc.com.sg/contact/location.html

What we will be doing – icebreakers, games, bowling, arcade (the last two activities are optional, and will be on your own basis after the actual programme!)

So do bring a comfortable set of clothes and slippers to change into. Bring extra clothes and bathing materials, as there will be ‘active’ games, which will cause you to perspire a little. There are bathing facilities at the resort, so no worries about rushing for toilets. =)

*Snacks and drinks will be provided!

WHY we were doing this: Our quarterly combined event is due, and since we’ve got the chalet at our disposal, why not conduct something there? Taking a break from our CBSI studies, we hope that this would be a great opportunity for all of us to get to know one another better, through playing games, eating and having fun together.

Don’t get be wrong, bible study is imperative, but we also need to apply what we’ve learnt. One way of doing so would be in the interaction with our peers – how we encourage and build each other up through meaningful fellowship. This is something we haven't done very much beyond our usual cliques.

That being said, do encourage all your YA friends to join us! The success of the event would very much depend on everyone participating actively, not just a select group of people having fun by themselves. Also, use this chance to talk to those whom you don’t usually talk to, or don’t have the time to do so.

So see you guys there!

( Internet Radio )

Hello!

I love internet radio. It's free, there are fantastic songs according to the genres that you like and there are no adverts (and no annoying DJs who talk nonsense to waste air-time).

I like this website, www.accuradio.com , it's awesome, there are so so so so many genres of music to listen to, and under each genre there are sub-genres too. For example, I like Latin music, and there are sub-genres like Reggaeton, Salsa, Tango etc. Under Decades radio, there's also sub-genres of different decades, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s. If you like modern day latest hits kind of thing, go for Magic Sunny Mix. Recently they added in Christian music, and it has genres like Christian rock, Inspirational, etc. There's another page, www.accuradio.com/secret which has some other channels too.

Go check it out! I TOTALLY LOVE IT!

( Hui Qi's birthday )

Hi all, as I mentioned at YA, HuiQi will be having a birthday celebration this coming Sunday. Could you nudge nudge me if you are going for the party, because she needs to know the rough number of people who are coming? Can email me at dawneyho@gmail.com or drop me an sms=)
Here are the following party details:

21st September Sunday Evening 6.30-9+pm
12 Lorong Salleh S'416764
Nearest MRT: Eunos
If you still have no clue how to get there feel free to ask me=)

As this party is also aimed at evangelising to her non Christian friends, as brothers and sisters in Christ, let us be praying for our dear sister, for courage to share her testimony and the Gospel, wisdom for the words she is going to say(still preparing testimony no doubt) and for God to work in His sovereignty to touch her friends with His word.

And we know that in all things God works the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

Have a blessed week=)
In His love, Dawn

( Material for Sunday, 7 September 2008 )

Dear YAMmers,

Cheryl will be forwarding a copy of the material that we'll be using this Sunday's sermon on ministry training. You can choose to print it out or read it off your laptop, although I'd suggest the former. It's only five pages long!

The Leaders don't have to print it out as Pastor Joshua has already given you all copies! Thanks.

See you guys on Sunday!

Daryl

( IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )

Why I don't use the phrase "TGIF":

- Because when you pronounce it, it goes "tee-jif". It just seems like a variation of the detergent used for cleaning pots and pans (the one in the white bottle, yellow with the lemon scent).
- I went to a restaurant once and they labelled one particular dish as "Thank God It's Fish", so I'm more or less reminded of fish every time I think of "tee-jif" and depending on how I think of fish, if it's raw I'm grossed out, if it's cooked I'm hungry.
- I like giraffes.

( Water Footprint )

What do you know about the water footprint?

No, it's not the little mark that your feet leave behind after stepping out of  a puddle of water.

A water footprint is the direct or indirect amount of water that you have consumed based on your consumption of goods and services.

Let's have some WOW facts:

One cup of coffee takes 140 litres of water to produce. In contrast, a cup of tea takes about 35 litres of water to be produced. (Teh-peng lovers, you produce less of an impact on the environment. Yes, congratulations Desiree.) Including the container, the amount of water you indirectly consume by drinking one cup of coffee is FIVE HUNDRED TIMES the amount. Unbelievable isn't it.

Who prefers beef to chicken?

15000 litres of water are required to produce 1 kg of beef, but on the other hand, only 3500 to 4000 litres of water are required to produce 1 kg of chicken!

I suppose you're wearing a shirt while reading this. An average cotton shirt needs about 3000 litres of water to be produced! (8000 litres of water are required to produce 1 kg of cotton)

Would you make different choices now that you know the extent of your water footprint?

I'm not sure I would. I do like beef. Maybe I'll just drink more tea then.

( Sounds from Hell? )

Hey guys,

Came across this website. Some Siberians drilled down pretty deep into the earth, and recorded what they believe as sounds from hell. Basically it's a lot of screaming.

Believe it or not?

Haha I don't know. It's a little creepy if you believe it's real. It made me think that hell is a lot more real than I've ever imagined it before. And the website gives plenty of biblical references of hell being in the heart of the earth. I always thought hell, like heaven, was in some kind of limbo (meaning floating somewhere in space and time, not that dance where you go under a bamboo pole). I suppose it's up to you whether you want to believe it.

Whether it's true or not, it's up to you to watch the video. They have the sounds. It gave me goosebumps. I wouldn't want to watch it at night, but it is up to you.

Depends on how scared you want to be, you can take it as "screams from hell" or "a crowded MRT train".
