One of the bloggers I used to follow shared this article by Michael Josephson in an entry sometime ago. It's been lingering in my heart ever since. No harm sharing it here I guess.

Finding God in the Park 660.5

Abe was fiercely independent, even at age 85, but after a mild stroke his son insisted he move in with him. Abe missed going to the park near his old apartment, and one Saturday he set out to find it.

When he became disoriented, he asked a young boy named Timmy where the park was. Timmy said he’d like to take him there, but he didn’t have time because he was looking for God. He said he needed to talk to Him about why his parents were getting a divorce.

“Maybe God’s in the park,” the old man said. “I’d like to talk to Him, too, about why He’s made me useless.” And so they set off together to find God.

At the park, Timmy began to cry about the divorce, and Abe lovingly held his face in both hands and looked him straight in the eyes. “Timmy, I don’t know why bad things happen, but I know it wasn’t because of you. I know you’re a good boy and your parents love you and you’ll be okay.”

Timmy gave Abe a big hug and said, “I’m so glad I met you. Thanks. I think I can go now.”

From across the street, Timmy’s mother saw them hug and approached her son in a worried voice. “Who was that old man?”

“I think he’s God,” Timmy said.

“Did he say that?” she demanded.

“No, but when he touched me and told me I’m going to be okay, I felt really better. Only God can do that.”

When Abe got home, his son asked in a scolding voice, “Where were you?”

“I was in the park with God.”

“Really? What makes you think you were with God?”

“Because He sent me a boy who needed me, and when the boy hugged me, I felt God telling me I wasn’t useless anymore.”

CompassionArt is a group of Christian artists (Martin Smith and Stu G from Delirious?, Matt Redman, Paul Baloche, Chris Tomlin, Darlene Zschech, Israel Houghton, Steven Curtis Chapman, Tim Hughes etc. etc.) who came together to write songs for charity. They stayed in a Scotland house for a week and churned out songs, very very good songs. So they made a CD and it's been in stores for about a year.

One of my favourite songs off the album is 'Highly Favoured', written by Matt Redman, Steven C C, and Michael W Smith. This very first demo version of the song is the best part of the DVD which comes with the CD. It's only a video and yet you can strongly feel the electricity and wonder filling the room at that time. The album version isn't as powerful, but it's still good.

What I wouldn't give to be in that room.. I'm amazed that the whole house didn't just explode from the amount of talent contained in it. Look at all those people, the biggest names in the Christian music industry, all channeling their heart and skill to the common purpose of bringing God's love and provision to the needy. Wow.

Now go to your nearest Christian store and buy the CompassionArt album. The publishers and record companies and artists gave up all the rights to the songs, as well as the royalties from them. All proceeds go to help the poorest of the poor.

Joy is the flag flown high from the castle of my heart, for the King is in residence there.

We'll be heading down to EAST COAST PARK after service this Sunday afternoon for the combined CG gathering. It'll be an afternoon of blading, cycling, bowling, or even sandcastle building if you're game enough. We can't possibly do everything so we've gotta choose of course. =)

YAM Calendar July to Nov 2009

Hi ppl!

Just an update on what's gonna happen for the next few months.

Moving forward, from July till Nov 2009, the format for the YAM gathering/service will be something like this:

Every 1st week of the month will be the YAM Ministry teaching(topic to be advise) or others mass teaching.

Every 3rd week of the month will be the YAM all Care Group get together official gathering, where all CG group will meet at the same time, same place. CG be given the following month's 1st week YAM Ministry/Mass teaching material to be discussed and review within their own group. To CGL, this discussion/review will be done during your the CG group discussion/devotion slot and rest is still as per normal.

The above will be the fixed schedule and sequence from the month of July to November.
And if there is any changes or any additional things, will update you guys after the Servants' Team meeting.

Some of you did ask, so CG group only meet once a month, ah? Well, nope. We only fix one CG meet on the 3rd week of the month and if any CG group are eager to meet-up with their own group more than once in a month, they are most welcome to do so. That will be free and easy and at OTOT.

I think that's about all. As for the August material, it will be distributed on 5th July 2009.

So, looking forward to meet you all at YAM time on 5th July 2009!!

YA Gathering/Service Resume in July

Hi fellow YAs,

YA Gathering/Service will resume back on the 5th July 2009 Sunday. July topic will be on Post Spiritual gifts workshop…so…for those who attended YAWA, I guess you still have the materials on Spiritual Gifts Discovery Questionaire with you but for those who did not join us at YAWA, fear not, I've sent a mail with the attachment but if you did not receive my mail, just sms me and I will get one for you. Most of you may know that we have not really gone thru the whole questionaire so if you can, go through and complete the whole thing at before the July YA meet and if there's any question or doubt, please raise it up during the meet. And for those who are really busy and you think you might not be able to complete on time, well, maybe we can cater some time during the meet for you to do so. Whatever it is, do it prayerfully. Ask God for guidance.

I myself find this whole material very useful especially for those who have yet to discover their gifts.

So to all CGLs, please ensure all your group members have this material, and follow-up on this, remind all your member and encourage them to complete and join us on 5th July.

June is CG Month

Hello all,

As Chris has already mentioned to the CGLs, June will be a month set aside for all Care Groups to continue meeting to share, account, encourage and to fellowship. There will be NO official Sunday meetings in June on a ministry level, save for the NS BS group on Sunday mornings.

If you haven't met up yet, now's the time to arrange a meeting, as Pastor Joshua and Chris are planning to sit in your individual groups for to see how things're going and to provide the necessary guidance. Feel free to ask them questions regarding the CG or YAM in general.

That said, as Chris is our new deacon for Young Adults, do direct all queries/questions and suggestions pertaining to the ministry to her, from now on.

Hey people,

We finished wrapped up the series on Spiritual Gifts during YAWA, with messages, sharing and discussion sessions, and spent some time having fun and fellowship with our friends from Hope Presbyterian Church and our incoming 18-year old young adults as well!

Post-YAWA, YAM will be in recess on Sunday, 31st May 2009. We were supposed to be meeting again on the following Sunday, 7 June 2009, but due to the Seri Alam Mission Trip, in which many of our young adults are involved in, we may have to reconsider the scheduling.

That said, do stay tuned for updates regarding this, and pray for the Servants Team, Pastor Joshua and Chris, as we meet up over the course of the next few weeks to discuss and decide on the matter and other issues relating to YAM.

YAWA Briefing and updates for weekending Sunday, 24 May 2009

Hellooo,

Today, Pastor Josh went through the second part of the Spiritual Gifting series – Naming the Gifts.

He will be sending us a review sheet/material of his sermon/training for those who missed out, and for the hardworking ones who’d like to go through his message again. =)

After YAWA, YAM will only resume service on Sunday, 7 June 2009.

For those who missed out on today’s briefing, here’re the details in brief:

1. The reporting time for YAWA has been pushed back from 7 to 8 pm. Do have your dinner before coming! If you want to arrange your own car pooling on a personal basis, you’re most welcomed to do so.

But no transport will be provided after 8.30 pm. This is to give our young adults who drive a chance to attend the sermon uninterrupted. Please make your own way to NACLI if you are coming later, or on the second day, if you come after breakfast in the mornings. Same reason as above.

2. Grouping Arrangements for YAWA.

Those names in Yellow are your YAWA CGLs.

YAWA Draws Close and updates for weekending Sunday, 17 May 2009

YAM will resume on Sunday, 17 May 2009 with the second part of the Spiritual Gifting series. There will also be the regular corporate prayer meeting as well as the YAWA briefing.

There will be a final briefing for YAWA this coming Sunday, 17 May 2009. Those who have signed up are strongly encouraged to attend this as it will contain all the details you need to know right up to the first day of the camp. Those who have not submitted your forms and money to your CGLs (NOT directly to me thank you), please please do so asap so that we can facilitate the payment, room arrangements and other miscellaneous expenses. Thank you!

I've been truly blessed by his lectures. Many times it has helped me sharpen my mind in being able to answer and defend questions like 'WHY i am a Christian'?

This is a recent one on'Secularization'. And here's the text of it, for those that prefer to read :) notes

I would say during this holiday 'nuar-ing' period, train and build your mind up in the word and also lectures and messages such as these. There's a lot more feeding of the intellectual mind besides ur text books. And lets even discuss here if you like.

Hey everyone,

We started on the first part on Spiritual Giftings – a series that will culminate with YAWA. Today, Pastor Josh spoke on the need on spiritual gifts in building up the body of Christ.

Our Young Adults’ Weekend Away (YAWA!), will be held from the 22nd to 24th of May (Friday to Sunday) at NACLI (Buona Vista). The relevant information is in the consent form and other attachments.

Pastor Josh will be speaking on Spiritual Giftings, and there’ll be discussion sessions in our CGs too. There’ll definitely be time for R & R too, if you know what I mean! The timeline and proposed activities have been attached for your reference.

Hi everyone,

After today’s Servants Team meeting, there’ve been some changes to Maria and Gladys’ CGs. Gladys will be informing the groups and people affected by these changes. All other CGs will remained unchanged. The groupings will be officially shown during YAM this Sunday.

Exams’re round the corner for many of us, but do take the time to come for the last session on WCF as well as to pray together as a corporate body. Do note that there will be time set aside for CG discussion on the WCF as well.

If Satan took over...

I was feeling abit bored until I came across part of an article in a Christian forum:

[What would things look like if Satan actually took over a city? The first frames in our imaginative slide show probably depict mayhem on a massive scale: Widespread violence, deviant sexualities, pornography in every vending machine, churches closed down and worshipers dragged off to City Hall. Over a half-century ago, Donald Grey Barnhouse, pastor of Philadelphia's Tenth Presbyterian Church, gave his CBS radio audience a different picture of what it would look like if Satan took control of a town in America. He said that all of the bars and pool halls would be closed, pornography banished, pristine streets and sidewalks would be occupied by tidy pedestrians who smiled at each other. There would be no swearing. The kids would answer "Yes, sir," "No, ma'am," and the churches would be full on Sunday ... where Christ is not preached.]

I then started to wonder: would there be a day where KPC will have powerful and lively worship services packed with lots of warm-loving people. Sundays will be bustling with wholesome events and activities organised for people of all ages. Various needs of all members will be well-taken care of by the church ministries. Many mission teams will be sent out to rebuild schools and hospitals in 3rd world countries. The church leadership and members are of one voice and unity. People contribute generously to the church general and mission funds.

Just one thing is lacking: Christ is not preached. When everything else seems to go smoothly, and just this one thing is missing, what will our reaction be? Will we all sit back and relax and pretend it does not matter, or we will be disturbed and alarmed? It can be quite scary sometimes to know the truth.

The format for future YAM sessions on Sundays will consist of worship, sermons/messages by Pastor Joshua or other speakers, followed by discussion sessions in your individual Care Groups.

In order to facilitate such a process, it’d be good if you could attend the YAM events on Sundays, not only to listen and learn, but also to encourage and share with one another.

Exams for students in the universities are just round the corner, so do continue to keep these people in prayer and to encourage each other to pull through this final lap before the long holidays.

The Care Groups will be meeting as a whole YAM this Sunday at 1 pm for a short (half hour) briefing. After which, the CGs will disperse for their own group time (to be arranged by your CG facilitators).

The briefing will be about the focus, guidelines and proposed activities for the CGs. Since some young adults have been asking, this is to clarify any doubts as to what exactly we’ll be doing for Care Group time.

Pastor Joshua will be explaining this in more detail this coming Sunday.

There’ll be YAM this Sunday! We’ll be doing the Westminster Confession of Faith, the presentation of the finalised Care Groupings, and Uncle Meng Kim will be doing a short publicity presentation on PLAYMAX, an outreach event organised by SYFC.

Hey guys,

this sharing is pretty much for myself, but it's been such an encouragment from Father, so would like to share with everyone :)

"You rejoice in this, though now for a short time you have had to be distressed by various trials so that the genuineness of your faith - more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire - may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ." 1Pet6-8

To grow as a Christian in more godliness, God disciplines. It hurts, but necessary. For He disciplines those He loves. He prunes those branches that are His, so they may bear more fruit. He breaks those jars so that we as clays may be made more like Him. Myself personally those who know me, have a tendency of getting anxious or worry. Now, being anxious is the opposite of trust or faith in God. At this point in life, many things are uncertain and unknown to me. Out of my hand. Anxiety only adds bitterness and depression rather than joy, in whatever problem that we're facing. In fact, anxiety cannot add or change whatever result that is already setout by God's goodness and love. So why worry? yet, we still do. I often do.

Faith/trusting in God is not easy. In fact as 1 Peter says, it needs to be refined by fire, it needs to go through trials, it needs to be tested, so to be glorious, more Jesus-like, and ultimately the completion brings praise to God. In taiwan our national flower is called "Mei Hua". It's a flower of interesting character, which only blossoms in cold weather. The colder it is, the more it blossoms. And naturally it is a much more stronger flower than others, which can survive in unusual tough situations. Catacus is of similar 'tough' plant too. They often remind me of our Christian journey. God did not promise smooth journey at the point of believe. In fact, He desires sanctification, growth, maturity,and holiness. And He does that and teaches us lessons by placing us in 'cold weather'. Often He puts us in storms and waves, so that we may mature and grow to be more like Him. Despite the temporary cloudy sky, the sun is always not too far off. It's unseen, behind the clouds. But it's there, always and still shining. Same with God, He never leaves nor forsake us, His grace is sufficient for all our needs and for EVERY season of our lives. He comforts us, guides us, teaches us through His WORD by the Holy Spirit. In darkness, yet that glimpse of light of love still shines, always available to those who would abide.

Ps 1 "Instead, his delight is in the Lord's instructions, and he meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leave does not wither." His WORD is LIFE!!! and is the key to survival. We may be injured during the storms but not destroyed, we may slip, but not fallen, we may despair but not hopeless, we may feel lonely but not forsaken. For our house is built on nothing else, except the WORD of the MIGHTY GOD!!! When waves of life problems (anxiety) attack, let us root deeply in His Word, and He says, "cast all your anxiety on me, because I care for you". O, how such sweet comfort? It is for myself, in which I am yet to taste the full sweetness of His love. I often fail, but I press on with perseverence by His strength not my own, i may be crippled by the storms, tired, even my flesh may fail me,but I shall continue on running, finishing the race He set before me. To the very end, till I see Him... such future grace - Heaven,in which through the present darkest hour, I truly rejoice...

This is easily said but hard to do, friends, let us together keep persevering in His love, trusting in His goodness of His provision, wherever we are, whatever we're facing....He's saying: "Be still and know that "I AM" GOD..."

I read recently...

(This is in view of Steve Turners' book 'Imagine', a vision for Christians and the arts)

" When Christians think of the arts as something that can be used to win the world to Christ, they create an unrealistic expectation of the arts and put unfair pressure on artists. Christian songwriters are automatically expected to write "Christian songs." But what constitutes a "Christian song"?"

The use of Jesus, Lord, God? And thus is what i'm trying to learn as well in art school. Do i NEED to paint a cross to visually communicate Christ, the crucifix and salvation? Or could I portray a grotesque picture/video to portray the total depravity of man?
Often, i find myself struggling to put my faith and studies together. It seems to be separate. Just like how we define 'secular job' and 'full-time ministry'. Are they really separate? How are we able to be totally relevant all the time without 'painting a cross' all the time?

U2 is such a band. Let us learn from Jesus, who was viewed as 'too secular' by the 'pastors, elders and deacons' of His time. :)

Jen and I share the goal of wanting to be shining lights in law school. To be different. To point all those lost, broken, unloved around us to Christ. The make-up of law sch is truly different (the competition, as friendly as can be, can kill). As is all the various environments the Lord has seen fit to place you in. But never forget, the joy of the Lord. It is the joy in the Lord IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES that makes us shine and direct broken-hearts to the Healer of Wounds.

Hello my fellow sisters and brothers.

Sorry for the wait.

For those that did not attend the young adult meeting on 1st March 2009, please do take some time to continue reading this post. In future, YAM will have the "Care Group" system implemented amongst the Young Adults.

In order to be a healthy Christian, one has to learn, serve and fellowship. Currently, most of the young adults are learning (e.g. CBSI, YAM Fortnight Meetings, sermons etc) and serving (e.g. worship team, youth, sunday school etc.). However, fellowship has often occured at a more "superficial" level especially for the newcomers OR that much of the fellowship that we enjoyed are not functioning in the right way.

Thus, in order to encourage healthy fellowship and accountability towards one another amongst the YA community, this "Care Group" system will be implemented.

In order to be part of this "Care Group" system, please kindly email your name to Daryl (npcc2001@hotmail.com)! The Groups will be mixed groups and will not exceed 5 people per group. Groups will meet at least once a month. (Do note that YAs meet at a corporate level only during the Sundays of Week 1 and Week 3.) Currently, the servants team are approaching some Adults to help us be facilitators of such care groups.

I understand that some may think that this will segregate the YAM community. Of course it doesn't! What happens within such groups is that Young Adults will have a covenant with one another to be transparent in order to aid accountability. Care groups are more like a support group whereby you know that no matter in whatever situations, these are the group of people that you can always go to for prayer and support or even advice. Please do note that Care Groups are not exclusive in the sense that no one can enter your care groups once it has 5 members. Instead, groups have to be porous and once the number goes beyond 7, then the group will be split up. Also, we have governing policies that all groups must comply with in order to enjoy healthy growth. They are as follows:

Policy Concerning Care Groups in Young Adult Ministry

Purpose and Function
- Mutual accountability for Holy living & Personal Godliness.
-Regular prayer support for spiritual growth & protection against Spiritual attacks.
-Mutual encouragement to reach out to non-believers and to serve each other with God-given gifts and talents.

Formation & Group size
- Group size of about 4-5, no more than 7 for effective sharing.
- Members must agree to actively participate in this care group.
- Mixed gender composition allowed unless there are spiritual concerns.
- Members could either be assigned or self-selecting depending on circumstances.
- Minimum meeting at least once a month depending on current needs.
- Members could decide what activity or program would suit their current needs so long as the desired outcomes are achieved (see point 4).

Non-negotiables
- Every group must have a leader who is willing to be accountable to the Young Adult Pastor & Deacon. He or she will be the linkperson between the Church and the group.
- Groups must still be committed to Church & YA programs such as Bi-yearly church camp, yearly Young Adults Weekend Away (YAWA), supporting Church Youth Camp, as well as other trainings deemed necessary for the spiritual well-being of the Church.
- Groups must be opened to Newcomers joining in and all members must make very effort conceivable to include newcomers in all interactions and sharing. Failing this, groups may be asked to close or reconstitute.
- Groups must aim to multiply itself when the group size grows beyond 7.
- Groups must strive for the desired outcomes of small groups and avoid the unhealthy signs.

Desired outcomes
- Members increasingly reflect the character of God as revealed in God’s word, with the fruits of the Spirit becoming more evident in members’ life.
- Members building greater trust and accountability among each other.
- Members having greater concerns for the salvation of others.
- Members using their gifts and social opportunities for the gospel.
- Members serving each other out of genuine love.

Unhealthy signs
- Group becomes an in-group only and closed to new members joining in.
Unhealthy interest in gossip and slander against each other or members outside the group.
- Group becomes critical of the leadership of the church or the servant teams without seeking clarification or reconciliation, showing a lack of submission to the YA pastor and deacon.
- Group becoming focused on social gatherings for sake of social gatherings, neglecting all the purposes for care group.

Ending a group
- Should a group becomes unhealthy the leadership of the church reserved the rights to advise the group to either terminate or reconstitute its members.
- Failing to comply with counsel may result in church disciplinary action being taken for the sake of the unity and holiness of the church of God.
- If the size of the group becomes too big (> 7), the group should split into two smaller groups and start the multiplication process.

If you are thinking the the amount of information is too overwhelming, fret not! Contact any one of the servants team people (Maria, Daryl, Gladys, Marianne, Zuhao) if you have any queries.
Because those involved in this system are supposed to make a covenant with one another to be transparent and to uphold one another in Christ in whatever circumstances(which is actually quite a serious covenant to make), please submit your name to Daryl if you want to be part of the system. (YES! STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO BE PART OF THIS SYSTEM KAYS. IT IS NOT THAT SCARY SINCE WE ARE ALL CALLED TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS WE LOVE OURSELVES!)

Do note that if you are facing any struggles that you are only comfortable with sharing with certain people, you can tell us who you are able to share with courageously. It is reminded to all YAs that whatever is shared within the group will only stay within the group unless the person that shares allows for sharing beyond the care group.
Also, do keep in mind that other considerations such as dislike for certain people, thus not wanting to be in the same group with those people will not be taken into consideration when the young adults are being grouped. Afterall, we ARE called to love one another right (*emphasize)?:)

The date line for submission of names is on Monday 9th March 2009. Please help to spread the word around because many Young Adults were absent at the YA meeting (1st March 2009).

P.S. Accountability requires complete honesty from you and love from God. Accountability is important in all areas of our lives. God made us a family - a team, so that we can work together and encourage one another in our walks with Him.

Ravi Zecharias is an apologetic. A defender of the faith. Do we know how to defend our faith when thrown arguments? and do we know what we believe in? I came across this clip and many times feel helpless (even though i've been on the ship before) when arguments and tutorials deny the existence of absolute truth by replacing it with logical thinking and persuasive arguments and philosophy. Yes, we art students do use our brain too! =_=

I'm sure most of us are intriqued by the topic of manhood and womanhood, like re'ship and stuff. I would just like to share couple of things, and please do share your thoughts too!! I think it is important to understand the way God has created us, so we can live out our 'role' to its full potential.

Eph5:22-30

22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. I shall divide the topic into 2 different parts: 1st is the differences in roles and 2nd the differences in mentalities.

ROLES:

before I go further I would like to define the meaning of masculinity and femininity.
(from the book "What's the Difference?" by John Piper)

Masculinity: "Mature masculinity is a sense of benevolent responsibility to lead, provide for and protect women in ways appropriate to a man's differing relationships" - (meaning of leadership)

(***below is not absolute, eg, woman can lead at times etc, i'm just giving the broad picture****)

Men are to...

1. lead
2. initiate
3. provide
4. care for physically, emotionally, financially etc...(however, knowing God is the ultimate Provider!!!)
5. be responsible
6. protect

Femininity: "Mature femininity is a freeing disposition to affirm, receive and nurture strength and leadership from men" - (meaning of submission, submission does not mean girls are weak or created inferior!!! here u go girls..i'm speaking for u...:D )

Women are to...

1. affirm
2. receive
3. nurture

In short, Men, we are to GIVE and to LOVE, Women are to RECEIVE and to BE LOVED. Thus is the re'ship between Christ and Church...God is the ultimate Giver in which we receive from!!

However, this may differ slightly, since re'ship between husband and wife is different to male friends and female friends interatctions, so keep that in mind.

There is so much more to say and elaborate on in terms of these points, however will leave it open for discussion. I know I have probably left a lot of loops wholes for attacks..haha...since I'm just giving a broad picture...so please do share ur thoughts!!

This song really spoke to me. Many times we think we know how because of past experiences with Him but it may seem like a dead end when times get hard. The Initiative Against Depression

"Arise and eat." 1 Kings 19:5

The angel did not give Elijah a vision, or explain the Scriptures to him, or do anything remarkable; he told Elijah to do the most ordinary thing, viz., to get up and eat. If we were never depressed we should not be alive; it is the nature of a crystal never to be depressed. A human being is capable of depression, otherwise there would be no capacity for exaltation. There are things that are calculated to depress, things that are of the nature of death; and in taking an estimate of yourself, always take into account the capacity for depression.

When the Spirit of God comes He does not give us visions, He tells us to do the most ordinary things conceivable. Depression is apt to turn us away from the ordinary commonplace things of God's creation, but whenever God comes, the inspiration is to do the most natural simple thing - the things we would never have imagined God was in, and as we do them we find He is there. The inspiration which comes to us in this way is an initiative against depression; we have to do the next thing and do it in the inspiration of God. If we do a thing in order to overcome depression, we deepen the depression; but if the Spirit of God makes us feel intuitively that we must do the thing, and we do it, the depression is gone. Immediately we arise and obey, we enter on a higher plane of life.

As announced last Sunday, on 28/2/09 (Sat) 3-5pm Ladies' Fellowship will gather to hear Ms Debbie Walker,missionary of One Challenge, share on the topic "A Woman After God's Heart".
She will also teach a simple handicraft entitled "Cushion of His Grace". A small registration fee of $3/- per pax is chargeable to defray the costs of the handicraft.

After our announcement, Florence Ng informed me that she will be bringing 11girls from The Turning Point to join us, to learn a useful handicraft and connect with church community.

Seizing such a rare opportunity, I will like to extend a personal invitation to you and any of the YA to join us-something different like handicraft making and more so , for personal development through the sharing of God's Word, fellowship with different age groups of KPC, and to "connect" with residents of Turning Point. A good integration start for 2009, towards our Cross-Culture Caring Community.

"In Him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation - in Him when you believed - were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. He is the down payment of our inheritance, for the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory." Eph1:13-14

When I was Papua New Guinea, they have a trandition; when you make something, you own it. Many of them survive on basic tools, like canoes, baskets, wooden houses etc. And most of them are handmade. So you make them, you own it. It is the same with our Creator King. In Col 1: 16 says" because by Him everything was created, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things have been created through Him and for Him."

All things have been created through Him and for Him!! we are FOR Him!! Our lives, actions, speeches are not for ourselves, or other people but for Him!! We belong to Him because we're made by Him. With our lives we ought to reflect His glory. However, due to the fall, we have all turned our backs on Him and make ourselves god. By His grace, bought us back again with His blood. Whatsmore, in the Ephesians passage above, we're SEALED with the promised Holy Spirit. Sealed in Greek has many meanings, in this context it is best interpreted as ownership. We have a mark of His ownership!! Living inside us. He owns us, bought us, and marked us. There is nothing in us that belongs to anyone else but Him. Therefore friends, let us live for Him, everything that is in us!!! my prayer is that we may together walk this journey with a goal of to "live is Christ and to die is gain". If it is to love, then love, if it is to forgive then forgive, if it is to endure then endure, if it is to fight, then fight, if it is to be molded to be more like Him, can a clay say to his potter how to be molded? Let all that we are shine His glory!!

Friends, we are far richer than we think, such awesome eternal glorious inheritance, where we lack no spiritual blessings!!! What God has for us to finish this journey on earth is immesurable, more than we can ever ask or imagine!! Not only that, we have an "inheritance that is imperishable, uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in Heaven for us" 1 Pet1:4. What an awesome hope!!

Hang in there bros and sis, continue to let your "work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thess 1:3

Hello all!

We’ve survived the Westminster Confession of Faith! Okay maybe not the whole document but at least a good part of two chapters. Hopefully, all of us’d have a clearer picture of the all-important role of Christ in our faith and that He is both fully God and fully man at the same time, being thoroughly equipped to perform His role as our Mediator and Guarantor of our faith and salvation. =)

We also had our monthly corporate prayer meeting as well as offering collection – these two events will be a regular feature from now on (third Sunday of the month unless otherwise stated). I’m sure you guys understand the importance of especially coming together to pray a body of Christ right? =)

That said, do take note that Gladys will be taking on the role of facilitating prayer from now, and Zuhao will be taking on part of her welfare role in a partial exchange of duties.

Anyways, here’re the updates for this week:

Hi Friends!!

Have you had times where the past you regret what you did, or the present in distress and anxiety with nothing you can do, and the future, unknown full of darkness? The Lord knows, He knows and cares and He is there with us all the way through, past, present and future. He says in 1 Pet 5:7 "cast your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." His love and grace is sufficent for all that we need in ALL different circumstances that we are going through and will ever go through! for His love is good and endures forever. He desires us to remain in His love, to taste the goodness of His fullness.

"We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God" Rom8:28 so no matter what happened in the past, or what's happening now, or what will happen in the future, one thing we're certain, God's love and grace is sufficient and abundant in all situations. For He has given us His Son, will He not along with Him give us everything that is good for us? Rom8:32 isn't that amazing? that we are more than conqueors!! Not only we have overcome death in Christ but ALL things that are happening in our lives are FOR us, not against us, no matter how dark or hopeless it may seem. He is sovereign over all!! His love and grace is sufficient!! We can never escape from His love. Nothing can separate us.

So let us come to Him in surrender, our ways of doing things, wisdom, achievements, failures, anxiety etc and rest in Him and He is faithful to carry us through till the very end, till eternity for His glory.

Hello Young Adults!

We all survived the first part on the Westminster Confession of Faith (actually, only one short chapter), but nonetheless, I’m sure we had a clearer understanding of what it really means to be sinners and how God has saved us through Jesus Christ.

Anyways, here’re the events for this coming week!

YAM Events for the Week (8 Feb 2009)

Hello all!

CBSI will proceed on as per normal this Friday, and will continue to do so on a weekly basis unless otherwise stated by your group discussion leaders. So I won’t be posting any updates on CBSI from now. Just remember that it’ll be a weekly affair!

This Sunday, we’ll be having regular YAM on Sunday afternoon, starting from 1.30 pm at the Auditorium. There’ll be a short time of worship followed by corporate prayer and a short message by Pastor Joshua.

Pastor Josh will be going through the Westminster Confession of Faith (Part I). It’ll serve as a good reminder on what we Christians believe in and hold on to, especially with regards to certain aspects of our faith (Pastor Josh, do correct me if I’m wrong!). That said, I really hope to see all of you guys this Sunday, and not just only coming for the “fun” and exciting activities like the kueh paiti lunch and CNY visitations!

today's sharing is out of usual, not human words, but only Word of God for it is Life!!! Enjoy...

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. Life was in Him, and that life was the Light of men. I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through me. The Words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are Life. How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path of sinners, or join a group of mockers! Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without Me. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravaging wolves. You’ll recognize them by their fruit. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles? In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit. So you’ll recognize them by their fruit.

Be gracious to me, God, according to Your faithful love; according to Your abundant compassion, blot out my rebellion. Wash away my guilt, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of my rebellion, and my sin is always before me. Against You – You alone – I have sinned and done this evil in Your sight. Indeed, I was guilty when I was born; I was sinful when my mother conceived me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts. You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and full of faithful love. He will not always accuse us or be angry forever. He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our offenses. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His faithful love toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

In Christ we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift – not from works, so that no one can boast. To all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His Name, who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God. In Him when you believed – were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. He is the down payment of our inheritance, for the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory. All those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, and if children, also heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ – seeing that we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God; those who are called according to His purpose. What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

Hey Guys, happy chinese new year!!

hope you all had a great time with family and relatives.

In this day and age we now live, we can be so used to the world as so called Christians, comfortable with popular culture as so called Christians, so loving the world as so called Christians, and all that's in it. Whether be music, clothes, fashion, money, fame, reputation and all other materialistic things you can name of. Who are you? Are you really saved? I challenge you to self-examine yourself before God, (I'm talking to myself also) what does it mean to be God Followers? Are we God followers? Ae you a Christian?

What does it mean to be a Christian? Does doing good works make you a Christian? Does being kind make you a Christian? Does going to church every week make you a Christian? Does doing devotion daily make you a Christian? Does even professing Jesus is Lord praying that prayer once in your life by inviting Jesus into your heart make you a Christian?? Satan also professes Jesus is Lord and trembles with fear!!!!!

In America and Australia the majority of the people will say they are Christians and some pray the prayer and say "ok, now I'm saved, I prayed the prayer, yup, salvation in the pocket now" and still dwell in the old ways of life!! but sadly, the truth is that a large popluation will end up in Hell. For the gate is narrow, and few find it. We call ourselves Christians, yet what does our lives look like? What fills the desire of our hearts and minds? Do we blend ourselves so well among our classmates or colleques that you can hardly tell the difference? what they're comfortable with so are we? And yet, we call ourselves Christians???!! Let us not forget, not only the gate is narrow, the path is also difficult!!!

You may be thinking, well compare to my other Christian or non-Christian friends, I'm more godly. At least I do this and this and I don't do this and this. Never compare ourselves to other people!!! But compare ourselves to the Word of God!!! God's Standard!! we humans are nothing but sinful, wretched dust, foul disgusting creatures that till now I still do not understand why did God even bother to choose us and save us with His amazing abundant grace!!!

You may also say, well, God is love isn't? He so loved us right? I'm sure He wouldn't be so nasty. No!! Don't you know that other than the gracious love that is displayed in the Salvation of Jesus Christ, all we receive is God's righteous wrath!!!?? It fearfully trembles me everytime I think about it. You may say "Lord, did'nt I lead the youth group? Didn't I share testimony with my friends? Didn't I share your gospel? Didn't I help with the ones in need?" To many He will say, "I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!" The most important thing in the world is not about us getting to know Jesus, but that He KNOWS YOU!!!

What does our lives look like dear friends? Are we still living comfortably in the old ways of life and things of this world? look at ourselvs, examine our ways of life; where is that NEW CREATION in us? 2 Cor 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" The old is gone!! It should be gone!! for the New has come!! when we follow Jesus we should turn our backs on the sinful life!! Not once, when prayed that prayer, but continuously!!! Our lives should reflect the glorious righteousness of Him Who saved us!! We should no longer walk as the sinful people walk and continue not in sinning!! Saved believers have a change of life!!! Their lifestyle, thinking, speech, actions are changed!!! Radically Different. For "How can we who died to sin still live in it?" Rom 6:2 Where is that HATE for sin and LOVE for God in your new heart?

It is however true though, that like many of us and Apostle Paul experienced, "when I want to do good, evil is with me." True, it is a struggle, a tug of war between the flesh and the spiritual. However, God is FAITHFUL!!! for He says, Phil 1:6 "I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" When we walk on the difficult path of righteousness, there will be times when we will slip off track, but God is faithful and loving and will discipline His children and help His children to get back on track. He will bring it on to completion our spiritual growth and maturity. However, many people don't even have that struggle, that tug of war between the flesh. Many are simply comfortable with life. If that is you, dear friends, it is time to examine yourself before God.

So after all this, you may ask, then, how do I know if I'm a Christian? the answer is simple. People will know you by your......FRUIT!!! Mat 7:20 "So you'll recognise them by their FRUIT." Are your ways of life revealing your faith at school? work? Is the "new you" taking over you or are you still dwelling in the old-self with sinful hearts and desires? Is there love for His Word and hate for what is evil? Let us all sometime this week, confess ourselves before God, and examine our hearts, where we're at with Him. Are we really saved? Thanks to be God, who unconditionally chose us before the world began, that he opened the taste buds of our hearts that we may TASTE the goodness and sweetness of His amazing grace, such joy and comfort. He died that we may have a new life, new heart, new spirit, new mind, new desires!!! Ezekiel 36:26 A new man!! Eph 4:23 you are being renewed in the spirit of your minds; you put on the new man, the one created according to God's likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth." Let us not walk in the old ways!!!!

I challenge everyone this week to seriously bring before God about your life and relationship with Him, this is the most important thing you will ever come across.

the spurring is on!!!

Hey Guys!!

how's the week been? I have finally got the account and put stuff here. I think this blog is a great idea!!!

Don't know how many people read YA blog site, but anyway, what I want to say is that it is my prayer that this blog site may become a channel of interaction between the YAs NOT ONLY in updating news and info but become a channel of overflowing grace and encouragement that flows freely and lovingly from one to another in the Word of God.

Unity, which I believe, is critical, especially where we (YA group) are at now. In the midst of seeking direction and spiritual growth, we should more the more pray and encourage one another in the Word of God; that we may "grow in every way into Him" Eph4:15 together!!!

For Heb 10:24-25 says: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

So to start off, today I would like to share a passage from Matt 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" What a comfort isn't it!!! Such a reassurance in the midst of all the worry, anxiety and stress we have in this world. He says, come, give those burden to me, I will give you rest. Such rest, is a rest in the embrace of His gentle love. A love that is eternally faithful, sweeter than honey, satisfying to the soul like nothing else in the world can give. Such perfect, beautiful love that touches the inner, deepest part of our soul. How we long for such touch of sweet joy that is indescribable with mere words!!

Such Stream of refreshment, full of grace where storms and clouds exist not. All here is serene and quiet. Tender comfort...

Dear friends, let us draw our daily strengh from nothing else, but refreshed in God alone as we face the unkowns of tomorrow. Such fellowship with Him, like a Branch in an Vine is all we need. John15:4 "now remain in my love"

YAM Break!

Hi guys,

There won't be YAM this Sunday, 25th January 2009. It's the monthly break!

Also, do remember that there won't be CBSI this Friday (23rd January), and only ONE combined main service this Sunday at 9.30 a.m., due to the approach of Chinese New Year.

YAM will resume the following Sunday (1st of February). We'll be visiting some of our young adults' homes for lunch, fellowship and the usual CNY "lo-hei". No worries about the group turning up at your place unannounced, as Zuhao and myself will be calling the people involved to discuss with them first.

Time: 1.30pm to 4pm
Dresscode: OK! Since it is new year, I propose we wear something RED! Bright colours do affect moods you know!:)
What we will be doing:
1. Worship and Prayer
2. Practicing of Chinese Songs.
3. Proceed to Serene Home at 2.30pm
4. Head back at about 3.30pm and we will have an evaluation session
5. Close in Prayer.

Dear all,

Hope all of you enjoyed the Kueh Paiti Fellowship Lunch yesterday! Now that we’ve had a bout of fun and fellowship, we’ll be spending the next two Sundays reaching out to the community and serving those in need.

We will be prepping for the Serene Home Visitation this coming Sunday, 1.30 pm, on the 11th of January 2009. Gladys and the team will be teaching us some Mandarin and Hokkien songs that we will be singing to the senior citizens there. We’ll also be assigning the various tasks and assignments in helping to clean up the place too. Other than that, do come this Sunday for the briefing and more details will be made know then as well.

FYI, the YAM Serene Home Visitation will be on Sunday, 1.30 pm on the 18th of January 2009. =)

Also, don’t forget that CBSI 2009 begins at 8 pm this Friday (9th January), in the main sanctuary of KPC!

Yay! It's Christmas time!

HELLO peeps. Realise dat the blog is silent once again.
Even though Silent Night is approaching, don need to be so silent to create the festive mood rite?
haha. okay. Since dis is the season of sharing, i shall be nice & pen down a few fantastic ideas as to how to have a merry christmas this coming dec25.

~Enjoy Awesome Christmas Lights @ Mega Shopping Malls (Eg. the cooler ones are mostly centered around Orchard Rd area.)

~Ice Skating (haha. its quite difficult to find ice skating rinks nowadays in Sg. Substitutes include roller skating & water skating. lol.)

~Build-your-own-Christmas-tree (like how you build-your-own-bear. simply hunt for the best quality coniferous tree from any neighbourhood forest & buy accessories to accessorize. easier alternative include going to IKEA to shop for an electronic christmas tree made of optical fibre which can change color every few seconds for a more colorful christmas. hohoho.)

~Be a cheapo & catch Santa (only at participating Shopping Malls. note how supportive the malls are when it comes to Christmas!!)

~Shop & Eat and eat & shop. (target: delicious festive items like magic snowball necklace & strippy sugar cane. i mean candy cane.)

~Do something meaninful. Find something to volunteer in. Make the world a better place.

~Participate in Carol singing!! Flaunt your talent & fill the atmosphere with melodious peaceful tunes.

~Lastly, im not very sure if im right. But Christmas is supposed to celebrate birth of Christ? And its a time for family to get together & time of prezzie exchange. Hope everyone can have a warm & happy christmas coming Thurs.

Hello Young Adults!

You have been cordially invited to the Young Adult Ministry’s Thanksgiving Event 2008! Thanksgiving is a time where we not only enjoy good food and each other’s company, but it’s also for us to thank God for His goodness and provision to us over the past year or so. It’s also a time where we acknowledge those who have helped out in the ministry, map out the overview, objectives and broad programme structure for the upcoming year.

Hi everyone,

The Heroes Youth Camp is fast approaching! Many thanks to the overwhelming response to the call for volunteers for both activities that the YAM will be helping out with - CSI and the Sentosa Beach Games.

However, due to the strong sign up response, Dawn and the camp committee have requested for more help during the other days of the camp. The Faith Factor Group Facilitators will need to be with their groups most of the time, and hence it would be good if the young adults step in to help with other activities like logistics, administration and safety.

I just need to know whether you guys can stay on to help outside for the activity time that you signed up for, so I can schedule you and let Dawn know. Dawn herself will let us know exactly what kind of specific activities that she and her team need help with. So stay tuned!

That being said, do let me know if you can sign up as a volunteer, or if you already have, let me know for how many days you can help out with, and whether you're able to stay overnight during the camp itself. Thanks!!!

Dear young adults,

Yesterday's forum was an ultra-long one, but I'm glad that it was a very frank and honest one. Gladys captured the essence of the discussion, so if you need a copy of the minutes for reference of feedback purposes, don't hesitate to ask her alright?

The leaders and servants' team will be working on the info that you guys provided and will be spending the month of December ironing out the nitty-gritty details. We really hope to get the programme and broad structure of YAM out by Thanksgiving, which will be on the 28th of December 2008.

Dear Young Adults and Leaders,

Here's the agenda for this Sunday's forum. I know it's the exam period for most of us, but I sincerely hope all of us'll be able to make it down for this discussion session. Your feedback and opinions are very much appreciated!

• Our YAM Focus for 2009: Evangelism & Service

• Implementation: How can we reach out to our non-Christian friends (ideas and platforms e.g. Evangelistic sermons/discussion forums on controversial topics, what kind of programmes and events) and what are some areas of service we can explore (Sunday school, main service worship)?

• CBSI 2009: Friday or Sunday? I.E. Integrating our biblestudy (CBSI) with the main congregation on Fridays, while having ministry training, fellowship programmes or outreach activities on Sunday afternoons. Alternatively, we can carry on with CBSI on Sundays, while having special once or twice a month events for fellowship, outreach and ministry training.

• Defining the roles for the servants team members: I'm sure you guys need to know who to approach should you need help or if you have any proposition, e.g. If you want to serve in the worship team, they can look for Maria. We also want to avoid duplication of efforts and work, hence the need for clearly defined responsibilities.

• How to engage and reach out to our incoming young adults for 2009. There are five 18 year-olds this year – Christian, Shuhui, Tanya, Claudia and Melody. Evangelin is already with us. =) How should we go about welcoming them into the ministry?

Any other business?

If not, this should be about all. There will be worship, the skit/advertisement, followed by the forum. Yup, so this is what'll be going on this Sunday. See you in church!

Areas of Service for YAM Practicum

Dear YAMmers,

Yet another post in such a short span of time!

Anyway, here's a list of areas in which our YAs can serve in. This list is by no means exclusive, and as we link up with more ministries in other areas of the church, we will add for roles and positions to the list. Here goes: (in order of urgency and need as of this moment!)

1) YAM Ushers and Worship Team Members! (POC - Marianne)

KPC YAM needs helpful and nice people to help set up the chairs for YAM service on Sunday afternoons. In time, when our service grows (God willing!), these ushers will help to give out the newcomers packs and get visitors' particulars for info purposes.

These people will also help to assist in the collection and counting of the offering. One of them will also be the projectionist i.e., he or she will need to set up the laptop and projector. All it takes is to have your lunch a little faster, in order to reach the auditorium slightly earlier to get these things done! Oh and also a big heart and bright smile. =)

We're also looking for people to serve as musicians, singers, and worship leaders to help lead worship for our weekly Sunday services!

2) Sunday School Helpers (POC - Gladys)

Actually I'm not really sure myself for this role, so do ask Gladys Wong. Haha.

That being said, we hope that all young adults will be able to be involve in serving God through the various ways available. Remember, you don't have to be a spiritual giant to be able to serve Him!

9 Nov: Wrap-Up for CBSI Daniel

16 Nov: YAM Feedback Forum for 2009. We need your opinions, ideas, suggestions for the ministry. Let your creative juices flow!

23 Nov: A Walk In the Neighbourhood: A church-wide event where we will be going out to the neighbourhood to invite people to The Promise, Advent Services and the Christmas Service. More details and briefing will be done during regular worship services on this day, so do turn up in full force!

30 Nov: BREAK! Because a good number of us will be having our exams then.

7 to 14 Dec: The Dark Ages. But we might be having an event to welcome our incoming young adults (18 year-olds). MIGHT.

21 Dec: YAM Thanksgiving (Tentative)

A Spanish Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa.''Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:1 No one but their creator understands their internal logic ;2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.(THIS GETS BETTER!) :P

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

Some General Prayer Items

Dear YAMMers,

Not all of you might know, but Cyril Lim has left for the Republic of China. Or Taiwan rather. This will be his last major exercise before his graduation to become a full-fledged specialist in Our Army. Yup, just thought that it'd be good for us to continue keeping him in prayer for as he will be there for about three weeks or so, roughly the same length of time as Justin, who's still in Australia now. What a globalised SAF! Haha.

It'd be good if we could constantly keep each other updated on such happenings for each and every YA, so that we won't leave anyone out! =)

Also, do pray for our leaders, especially the Servants Team people, as we will be meeting Pastor Josh and Chong Ping on the 8th of November to deliberate the YAM's programme for 2009. This will be a time where we really hope to re-orientate our direction and focus of the ministry. Things have been rather messy or hit-and-run lately, but we earnestly want to seek God's help and wisdom in all of this. Yup, so do pray that we'd be able to have a fruitful and productive "retreat" cum meeting on that day.

24/7 prayer chain

Hi. WE NEED YOUR HELP.

For the youth camp (10-13 Dec), the camp prayer subcomm is organising a 24/7 prayer chain that will last 2 weeks, starting from 12am 26 Nov, right up til 12am 10 Dec. The original plan was to have people praying in hourly shifts only 18 hours a day from 6am-12midnight because we didn't want to encourage the youth to have weird sleeping patterns. But then Cheryl suggested getting the Young Adults to help fill in the slots from 12-6am, and so I'm testing the ground to see whether you guys are willing to participate in this. Are you?

The rationale behind 24/7 prayer is that we want to constantly remind ourselves that we are totally dependent on God for this camp. The youth and their friends are going to hear the gospel being shared to them during the camp, and so we're going to need intercession for their salvation and also for a lot of other things. We need to pray for: the non-believing friends, the regular youths themselves, the speaker, the messages, the discussion time, the activities/programs, and the beloved camp committee. You see why it's 24/7 for 2 weeks?

So if anyone at all is willing to work and pray alongside us in this chain, please contact me at 91478920. This isn't like an official YA thing, but just a personal appeal for people to help. Thanks.

Hello everyone!

We will all be doing Lesson 8 of CBSI Daniel for YAM tomorrow, so it's business-as-usual.

However, there will be a break in CBSI studies the following Sunday (12 October), as Pastor Josh will be out of town. There won't be any fellowship or other programme planned, as it's kinda last minute to put something together and inform everyone at such short notice. So no YAM next Sunday! Lesson 9 for Daniel will resume on Sunday, 19 October 2008.

In other news, there won't be a combined leaders meeting this coming Saturday (11 October) as well. So all GLs and servants' team members, do take note! Thanks!

Early this week (ST dated 15 Sep 08), Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan told Parliament on Monday that the incidence of STIs among youths between 15 and 24 years has risen from 231 per 100,000 population in 1998 to 418 per 100,000 in 2007.

In his response to questions from Hong Kah GRC MP Zaqy Mohamad, Mr Khaw said a 2006 Students' Health Survey, jointly conducted by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) and the Ministry of Education (MOE), found that 4 per cent of Secondary 3 and 4 students have had sexual intercourse.

HealthServe (a community-based organisation serving the fringe communities in Singapore), together with CMDF (Christian Medical & Dental Fellowship) is organizing an HIV symposium for Christian advocacy and action on 31 Oct (Fri) and 1 Nov (Sat) at SAC (St. Andrew’s Cathedral). It's on Friday, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, and on Saturday, 2pm to 5pm.

If you would like to attend the symposium, please inform me for registration purposes. =)

I'm going, and I would like to ask more of you to go because a Christian symposium on HIV in Singapore is very rare, and there are also very few resources in Singapore to learn about such.

There will be a combined Fellowship Event for the whole ministry very soon!

Details are as follows:

Lunch and transport will be on your own, from church. Just make sure you guys are at the chalet by 3 p.m. (i.e. catch the 2.30 p.m. Shuttle!) Shuttle buses are available at Tanah Merah Interchange (Nearest MRT Station!). Do check the website for the exact timings. Similarly for drivers, do refer to the maps on the website for directions on how to get there.

What we will be doing – icebreakers, games, bowling, arcade (the last two activities are optional, and will be on your own basis after the actual programme!)

So do bring a comfortable set of clothes and slippers to change into. Bring extra clothes and bathing materials, as there will be ‘active’ games, which will cause you to perspire a little. There are bathing facilities at the resort, so no worries about rushing for toilets. =)

WHY we were doing this: Our quarterly combined event is due, and since we’ve got the chalet at our disposal, why not conduct something there? Taking a break from our CBSI studies, we hope that this would be a great opportunity for all of us to get to know one another better, through playing games, eating and having fun together.

Don’t get be wrong, bible study is imperative, but we also need to apply what we’ve learnt. One way of doing so would be in the interaction with our peers – how we encourage and build each other up through meaningful fellowship. This is something we haven't done very much beyond our usual cliques.

That being said, do encourage all your YA friends to join us! The success of the event would very much depend on everyone participating actively, not just a select group of people having fun by themselves. Also, use this chance to talk to those whom you don’t usually talk to, or don’t have the time to do so.

Hello!

I love internet radio. It's free, there are fantastic songs according to the genres that you like and there are no adverts (and no annoying DJs who talk nonsense to waste air-time).

I like this website, www.accuradio.com , it's awesome, there are so so so so many genres of music to listen to, and under each genre there are sub-genres too. For example, I like Latin music, and there are sub-genres like Reggaeton, Salsa, Tango etc. Under Decades radio, there's also sub-genres of different decades, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s. If you like modern day latest hits kind of thing, go for Magic Sunny Mix. Recently they added in Christian music, and it has genres like Christian rock, Inspirational, etc. There's another page, www.accuradio.com/secret which has some other channels too.
